The
seventh grade students at Granger Middle School in Aurora chose to end their school year by participating in a community service
project. After brainstorming among all students and staff, it was decided that the seventh grade “Dark
Knights” would participate in a food drive to benefit local residents in need. Knowing the need for
cereal is always very high at the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry, the students specifically decided to collect as much
cereal as they could. To add to the fun and excitement, a competition was formed among the seventh grade
homerooms. A bulletin board was created that
featured a cut-out cereal bowl for each homeroom teacher. For each box of cereal students brought in, they could
add a cheerio-shaped "O" to the bowl to track class progress. Most of the students chose
to go above and beyond the goal of one box per student, and the “Dark Knights” were able to collect over 120 boxes
of cereal! The Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry would like to thank all students and staff for their
hard work in making this food drive such a great success. The Aurora Food Pantry will now be able to distribute
this cereal to local residents and individuals in need.
