Mayor Tom Weisner from the City of Aurora
and Sugar Grove Village President Sean Michel, went on a shopping spree in the Batavia Jewel-Osco store as part of Kane County
Farm Bureau's 10th Annual Food Check-Out Challange. Weisner and Michels competed in the shopping spree to see how much food
they could collect for the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry and Between Friends Food Pantry in Sugar Grove. Each
Pantry received more than $1000 in groceries. Mayor Tom Weisner collected 416 pounds of groceries valued at $1001 for the
Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry.
Food Check-Out Week is devoted to helping teach Americans how to stretch
their grocery dollars with healthy, nutritious food. Because U.S. farmers are the most productive and efficient food producers
in the world, food is a real bargain in the U.S. when comapred to the rest of the world. However, the "Challenge"
recognizes and calls attention to the fact that there is still hunger in our communities.
The Pantry would like
to thank Kane County Farm Bureau and Jewel-Osco for their efforts to make this event so successful. Also, a big thanks to
Mayor Weisner and Village President Michels for participating.
