Meet an Aurora Food Pantry Staff MemberJanuary 22, 2019
A lot has changed since Director of Operations Brisa Barraza joined Aurora Food Pantry in 2010. And Brisa has played a major role in helping to make it happen.
“When I first started, we used to distribute food out of a 3,000 square-foot facility,” she said. “In 2013, however, Aurora Food Pantry relocated to a 15,000 square-foot building, providing many more options for the community.”
“Now we’re able to receive and store a lot more food,” Brisa continued. “Also, in the old location we were giving out food in the traditional packed bag or box. Now the people who come to AAIFP have a 100 percent choice in the food they obtain. This is especially helpful for those who have food restrictions and special dietary needs.”
Other important changes, Brisa said, include evening food distribution every third Tuesday of the month from 3-7 p.m., which began in October 2018. For the future, Brisa would like to see more services like food deliveries for people who are homebound.
Born and raised in Aurora, IL, Brisa and her husband Eduardo have one son, Daniel, who is ten years old. In her spare time, Brisa enjoys cross-training classes at her local gym.
Of her work at Aurora Food Pantry, Brisa said that she feels good about lending a helping hand to the people who need it. “The help we give to people brings a little bit of hope into their lives.”
