  • Youth (Ages 14 -17) both individuals and groups. We can work with youth groups on specially designed projects. Youth volunteers require a signed parental consent form.

  • Sorting food donations
  • Preparing and delivering boxes of groceries as part of Pantry2Go.

The Essential Garden

The Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry planted its first raised garden bed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pantry staff and volunteers planted nine additional garden beds and created a 680 square foot overflow area. This giving garden brought so much joy during the never-ending quarantine; we deemed it “Essential.”

Why start a giving garden?

The coronavirus pandemic has left millions of families without stable employment. According to Feeding America, more than 50 million people, including 17 million children, may experience food insecurity.

What is a giving garden?

Beyond its physical definition, a giving garden is a way to get your hands dirty while volunteering your time close to home. If you’re already a gardener, this volunteer opportunity is ideal. With the giving garden, you could contribute without necessarily impacting your schedule. Raising vegetables is rewarding for everyone involved. Kids feel empowered when they are given the opportunity to help others. And, giving gardens teach a valuable life skill: how to grow valuable, life-sustaining food.
